Wk 2: Landscapes with a Corpse

With these images I attempted to tell a story. A man, excited to open his new, package got his knife out and cut into the tape, but did not realize that his show is untied. When he tripped over the shoelace he fell onto the blade and bled out right there. What is not apparent in the pictures is the irony of the contents of the package. It was another knife.

In hindsight I realize that there are better ways to show the package, but I was limited by the light. I wanted to do it at night because I wanted to limit the background. Shooting at night was also made it difficult because I had to stay still laying on the ground in the cold. I also had difficulty framing the picture and being in it. I would have to show my friend how to take the picture from where I was laying. If I were to do this again I would either get a tripod or get someone else to model. I would also take another picture with a shallow depth of focus on the new knife.

As for the subject matter of this assignment, I have no problem. I have a fairly dark sense of humor and I do not find many things offensive, especially if it is meant as art. I understand why people are not okay with it, but I think that it is good to discuss death.
